Estimation of the Population Total-Utilizing Estimators of the Population Size

Abstract
The estimation of the population total when the population size is unknown is considered. Two estimators using Direct Capture- Recapture sampling technique and another two using Indirect Capture- Recapture sampling technique are proposed. These estimators are compared numerically. In addition, they are compared with the estimator of the population total, when the population size is assumed to be known. It turned out that the suggested estimators can be useful in practice.
